Joan Salwen

CEO, Blue Ocean Barns

Joan is the CEO of Blue Ocean Barns, where she leads corporate and business development and government relations. Salwen’s work at Blue Ocean Barns brings her back to her own agricultural roots: she grew up in rural Iowa in the long shadow of her family’s 100-acre farm where she harvested cherries, preserved fresh sweet corn, and walked her Grandpa King’s bean fields, weeding by hand.

Melissa Uhl

Chief of Staff, Elemental Excelerator

The Emerson Collective Dial Fellowship supports breakthrough leaders in education, immigration, social justice, the environment, and health to help them tell their stories, captivate new audiences, shape important public conversations, and ultimately extend the reach and impact of their work.

We believe that, occasionally, one talented individual is best equipped to break open a new way of thinking about our most calcified systems and propel important national conversations forward. That’s why we support individuals as Fellows. Our Fellows are social entrepreneurs, writers, scientists, lawyers, artists, academics, and beyond, who are advancing important new work in education, immigration, the environment, social justice, media, and health.
